When Virginia was a little girl, she thought her mother had abandoned her. Years later, she discovers a navigation chart marking her mother’s last-known destination, the legendary planet Green Tara. She finally learns the truth—her mother was lost on a science expedition, illegally searching for a planet where colonists could breathe fresh air and drink free water.
Virginia and her cousin, Gordy, fly across deep space and their rescue mission works! They find Green Tara, a wildlife preserve filled with vibrant birds and an oxygen-rich ocean. But Virginia's mother doesn't recognize Virginia, now a young woman. Worse, security agents of the Triumvirate—unwilling to relinquish control of precious natural resources—track them down and demand surrender.

Loved it! Very engaging story that moves along at an entertaining clip and yet has beautiful lyrical passages as well. The environmental message is strong and moving. Virginia, the feisty, adventurous, questioning main character, is great. I'd love to see more young female protagonists like her. Over the course of the story she develops character, integrity and strength--but always in a very human, realistic way. There's an entertaining cast of supporting characters as well, and a complicated mother-daughter relationship that brings emotional depth to the story. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. A fun read that would make a great gift for a 10-and-up reader.Product details

Green Tara eBook KH Brower Reviews
I finished reading the book I bought at the EEAI conference. It was awesome! Zap! For some reason I kept picturing an animated film while I was reading. It would be a blockbuster!
What a fun story! The characters are great, the storyline is captivating and the message hits home. My 2nd grader is enthralled and enthusiastic about it. We can't wait for the next book!
I loved this book, as it was a unique sci-fi adventure and thrill ride. this would make a great Hollywood movie. My only problem is that the chapters are too short. For example if you read Catching Fire, at page 20 you'll have only just finished chapter one. With Green Tara, on page 20 you'll be finished with chapter 6.
If you don't know the plot, here it is A girl named Virginia is caught for flying her spaceship without a license. After getting out of jail, she and her brother Gordy find a manuscript belonging to their great-great-great-great-great grandma, and find out that their discovery is merely the beginning of a vast journey across space...
A neat, consistently surprising and engaging story. I'm reading this with a 7 year old boy, who is probably a bit younger than the target reader, but he gets about 98% of the words and loves the story. It's great to see a female protagonist in a science fiction story, and that's not been an issue whatsoever in getting my son to dig in. There's constant action and a thoroughly-imagined world to immerse a reader into. Recommended.
I liked the details of the unique setting; it gave me a vivid picture in my mind. The travel back to earth was exciting. Getting to Green Tara happened so quickly though. I also liked how the mom and the girl didn't instantly become friends. It was more realistic in the sense of the characters.
I think this will teach people to take more care of our earth. I would recommend it to young readers, who want to experience a great book! Looking forward to the next book!- 5th and 6th Graders @ HCS
Okay, I’m done with the first book- when can I read the second?! It was terrific and now I’ll let the kids read it ;) I was very impressed and was thoroughly engrossed. The mother/daughter relationship was complicated which makes sense given the main character is 15 and Momo has been away for 10 years- though it doesn’t feel like 10 years to her…. The mission of your story reminded me of another series- the first book was called “City of Pearl”. I plan to read this to/with both of my kids.
Fantastic for young readers on up. The characters are lively, drawing you into the action which never stops. If ever there was a book for young and old that sends the message on how important it is to save our natural resources, it is here. A must read.
